So I cannot review the item, but I strongly suggest you do NOT do business with Fountain City. It is now Feb 6 and I have still not seen the rf mod. I ordered this item on Dec 11. Fountain City says it was delivered on Dec 17.
Just tune to channel 3 or 4 and you can see what's on the Direct TV box, or DVD (switching done through surround sound stereo). It's great for sports - now I never miss a play. Now they are on display for viewing in the bar area, and on a shelf next to the treadmill. I have Direct TV, and their HD boxes do not have coaxial out. I recovered my 20" Sharp from a dust bunny in the corner of my basement and its 13" retarded cousin. Of course they all play the same show - but for the price, how can you not put those old tube sets back on. This was a great solution to put some dust collectors back in service. I now have a fleet of TV's in my basement working off this clever device.
The coolest thing is that it automatically switches to the DVD player when you turn it on, and back to the cable box when you turn the DVD player off. It does what it's supposed to - allows me to connect RCA-outputs from a cable box and a DVD drive into the coax input of an old TV.
I installed it in about 30 seconds and it's worked great ever since. The quality of this product is very good.
So, in short, if you need to hook up something newish to an old tv set, this is a great solution that provides options for composite and better picture. With the use of a 1ft coax cable, I was able to hook my Wii up to the old TV at the Vagabond Inn. When I tried to do the same thing at an Extended Stay Hotel, I couldn't do it (not that the unit didn't work) because that particular hotel (and I imagine nicer hotels) have a wireless page that comes up that must be filled out and since the Wii isn't a computer, it won't let you.
